Results from a 2010 Survey on Ethics in Evaluation

Canadian Evaluation Society Members Wayne MacDonald, Kelly Babcock and Heather Buchanan have posted in the results from a survey they conducted last year about Ethics in Evaluation. Some 455 evaluators filled out an on-line survey; their profile approximates the characteristics of the CES membership.

Results are numerous and interesting. For example, the five most frequent ethical challenges reported were, in decreasing frequency:

  • Conflicting stakeholder expectations
  • Stakeholder pressures evaluator to alter presentation
  • Evaluation findings are suppressed or ignored
  • Stakeholder declares relevant questions 'off limits'
  • Stakeholder had decided what findings should be in advance

The results will be presented at the 2011 CES Conference in Alberta in May 2011.
